AgilityEco's innovative services give much needed support to households that need a helping hand. Our teams provide practical help with energy efficiency, utility bills, household finances and vulnerability and we work closely with local authorities, housing providers and charities to reach people like Cynthia.
Cynthia, an elderly Portsmouth resident was living by herself on a low income. Her local Citizens Advice referred her for support from the Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP), which is AgilityEco's flagship energy efficiency and money saving advice service.
LEAP visited Cynthia at home and found that she was struggling to keep her home warm as her existing gas fire and two electric heaters were expensive to run and did not heat her home adequately. As a result of under-heating her home, Cynthia was also experiencing a severe damp problem in her kitchen.
LEAP provided immediate help to Cynthia. The Home Energy Advisor (HEA) fitted new energy efficient lighting, gave her energy efficiency advice and helped to find her a better deal on her energy supply, saving her around £160 a year. In addition, our HEA spotted the opportunity to refer Cynthia for help with maximising her income, installing a new energy efficient heating system and insulating her loft. The HEA also referred Cynthia on to another of our fuel poverty alleviation services - Warmer Homes. AgilityEco's ECO team was also able to help with a referral for loft insulation.
Warmer Homes, our First-Time Central Heating programme funded by the Warm Homes Fund, was able to arrange for a brand new, highly efficient gas central heating system to be installed in her home. This £3,800 system was installed completely free of charge and should save Cynthia around £500 per year, as well as keeping her home much warmer. Loft insulation will also keep her home even cosier.
On top of this, LEAP's partner IncomeMax was able to identify significant additional income for Cynthia as it was found that she qualified for both Council Tax reduction and a Personal Independence Payment but was previously unaware of this. This should ensure she is at least £3000 a year better off, but it could be even higher.
Cynthia told us: "I'm so happy with my new heating system, the installers have worked miracles. I can't tell you enough how brilliant the whole process was, they were lovely people. I'd give the scheme 15 out of 10."
