AgilityEco takes part in The Mix’s Ride 999 challenge

AgilityEco CEO joined cyclists as they completed 900 miles, across 9 countries in 9 days to raise funds for youth charity

The Chief Executive of energy efficiency specialist AgilityEco, Gearóid Lane, has cycled 300 miles over three countries in three days in aid of The Mix (formerly Get Connected and YouthNet), a multi-channel help service providing essential support for under 25s in the UK.

Gearóid joined the Ride 999 cyclists for the final leg of the challenge this year, starting in Switzerland and cycling 100 miles per day for three days, eventually reaching Milan. Day two of Gearoid’s ride also included a gruelling 30km climb to the snow-capped peak of the Splügenpass, the pass road which connects Switzerland and Italy.

Following last year’s successful Ride 999 challenge which saw 18 cyclists, including Gearoid, complete the demanding 900 mile challenge to raise £55,972, this year’s route saw 12 riders take on the ride of their lives. Cycling 900 miles from London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic VeloPark to Milan,  each rider had to raise a minimum of £2000 which will go towards funding The Mix’s helpline for a year, supporting 250,000 children and young people who have nowhere else to turn. The event raised an estimated £60,000.

Gearóid Lane is Vice Chair of The Mix. Along with three others, he organised the Ride 999 event after hatching the idea in a pub one evening, and this was his second fundraising challenge with the team of Ride 999 cyclists for The Mix.  In addition to the 900 mile cycle ride last year (which he completed with a broken foot), Gearóid has climbed Kilimanjaro, cycled 780 miles around Britain, ran a 100km ultramarathon and completed the London Triathlon for various charities, including Get Connected.

Gearóid Lane, CEO of AgilityEco said: “I’m proud to be supporting The Mix, which provides free, confidential help for young people under 25. Young people have never been more in need of help and support, and the money that we raise will be enough to provide support to 40,000 teenagers and young adults over the next year. I’ve taken on some tough fundraising challenges in my time – last year’s ride was made slightly tougher with my broken foot – but I enjoyed supporting the team on the final leg of the bike ride this year. It was a demanding ride but a wonderful experience for all the Ride 999 team.”

About The Mix (Formerly Get Connected)
The Mix (formerly YouthNet and Get Connected) offers multi-issue support to young people under 25. Reaching 1.8 million young people per year, we provide non-judgmental, informal support for any issue a young person might come up against.

Our new charity aims to reach 2 million young people by 2018; reaching 1 in 4 of the UK’s population of 16-25 year olds.

Young people’s lives can be a challenging mix of highs and lows. Their issues are emotional and intertwined and there is seldom a simple answer when they have a problem.

A ‘one size fits all’ solution isn’t going to cut it. Today’s young people are more complex and connected than any generation before them.  They need a blended service delivered on their own terms and through the technology of their choice - that’s where The Mix comes in.

The Mix is a free, confidential support service offering help through phone, text, web, social and counselling. The Mix connects young people to experts and their peers talking about everything from money to exam stress, from self-harm to depression, from break-ups to drugs.

Whatever issue a young person is facing, The Mix is always there for them, providing help, information and support - 24/7 and 365 days a year.
