AgilityEco celebrates installing over 1,000 energy saving measures

Portsmouth City Council's Warmer Homes Local Authority Delivery (LAD) programme has recently celebrated installing over 1,000 energy saving measures to households in the South and South-East of England, since the programme began in 2021.

Portsmouth City Council was awarded £17.8 million of the £500 million allocated to local authorities through the Government’s Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme. The scheme aims to raise the energy efficiency of low income and low energy performance homes, with a focus on homes with an energy performance certificate (EPC rating) of E, F or G.

AgilityEco has been delivering the programme on behalf of the Portsmouth City Council-led consortium of 17 local authorities across the South and South-East of England. The programme has installed a variety of fully funded energy efficiency measures including solid wall insulation, park home insulation, air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.

We, and our partners led by Portsmouth City Council, are really proud of the work we have carried out improving the energy efficiency of the most vulnerable households in these areas. Having the most successful LAD programme in the UK to date really highlights the fantastic work that we carry out as a collective and we are looking forward to continuing our delivery of this programme through 2022 and beyond.

Our vision is a warm, efficient and healthy home for everyone. We believe by reducing energy bills through energy efficiency and helping people stay warm and well, we will be able to support the most vulnerable in society.

This programme has helped many residents with improving the energy efficiency of their home, helping to reduce fuel poverty and also contributing towards the progress of the UK’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

Many households are facing uncertain times with energy prices drastically increasing from the 1st April. It’s important that they know that free support is available through programmes such as Warmer Homes that can help them reduce their bills and keep their homes warm.

Mr Bumstead is just one of the residents that has benefited through the Warmer Homes LAD programme. He applied to the scheme after receiving a letter from Switched On Portsmouth, an initiative run by Portsmouth City Council. Mr Bumstead is an elderly man living alone in a park home on low-income and was suffering with ill health and struggling to heat his home due to high bills. The LAD programme provided fully funded wall insulation which will save him hundreds of pounds on heating bills and is helping to retain the heat in his home, drastically improving his wellbeing and comfort. He also accessed our other programmes available and received a fully funded gas central heating system through our Warmer Homes first time central heating programme, alongside new LEDs and energy saving advice through our Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) programme. The total value of these energy efficiency measures was approximately £17,000.

The Warmer Homes LAD programme has also received some fantastic feedback from residents living within the consortium areas.

I got a letter in the post from the council about the scheme and applied straight away, even though I thought it must be too good to be true. I heard back quickly from the installers who carried out the work super quickly, with minimal mess. They were so accommodating of my requests and I'd tell anyone thinking of applying to definitely do it, 100%! You can't lose, the panels look great on the roof, and you'll be helping to increase the amount of green energy in the country
