AgilityEco awarded prestigious B Corp™ status

Watch CEO Sharon Johnson as she discusses what becoming a B Corp means to AgilityEco

Energy efficiency and fuel poverty services organisation, AgilityEco, has been awarded the prestigious and highly coveted B Corp certification. It has become one of the first businesses working in the field of energy efficiency and fuel poverty to achieve this globally-recognised status. AgilityEco now joins a growing community of mission-led businesses all around the world, including well-known brands such as The Guardian, Octopus Energy, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

B Corps are companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, care for their staff and are willing to be transparent and accountable. This aligns with AgilityEco’s mission, which is to have a positive impact in reducing fuel poverty, to make Britain’s homes ready for net zero, and for everyone to live in a warm, safe home.

Last year AgilityEco helped over 45,000 low income and vulnerable households to achieve more than £168 million in lifetime energy bill savings through better insulation, renewable technologies, low carbon heating and positive behaviour change. In doing so they will also save over 500,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

AgilityEco is proud to partner with likeminded charities, social enterprises and supply chain companies and, as part of its commitment to the B Corp movement, it will continue working hard to support them in becoming more sustainable.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is stringent and lengthy, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.

Recent attention on the energy efficiency industry makes AgilityEco’s B Corp certification a notable step and signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in the sector.

Sharon Johnson, CEO of AgilityEco, says:

“We are delighted that AgilityEco is one of the first UK businesses working in the field of energy efficiency and fuel poverty to achieve this significant award. B Corps must meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, and this aligns completely with our mission which is to have a positive impact in reducing fuel poverty, to make Britain’s homes ready for net zero, and for everyone to live in a warm, safe home.

“I am hugely grateful to our highly engaged teams who have helped us achieve this status and who understand they are working for a successful company that has a positive impact for people and for the planet. Thanks also to our investors, Bridges Fund Management. They are a B Corp themselves and have supported us on every step of the way, helping us to benchmark our processes, understand what makes us special and define our impact. It’s great to be a part of the Bridges family and to know that we are all striving for the same goal.”

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says:

“We are delighted to welcome AgilityEco to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that AgilityEco is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.

“We are pleased to have B Corps of all shapes and sizes as part of our community – from startups to multinationals and across many different industries. Business is a powerful force and B Corps demonstrate that you can do good in any sector. Welcoming AgilityEco is an exciting moment because it has an opportunity to lead the way within the energy efficiency industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support AgilityEco in paving the way for a new way of doing things”.

“Being able to welcome AgilityEco to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Its commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit”.
